With the rivers running very high at the moment this is a good time to be thinking about our safety skills and a good starting point might be to ask when you last used a throwline. Not since your last training course maybe? If you have access to a sports hall or similar, why not spend some time on throwline practice? Far better to have a sharp and accurate first time throw when your paddling companions are looking for help!
Top tip: if you do have to make a second throw, remember you have two ends to your line; it may be quicker to recoil and throw the clean end rather than the bag. And as always, if you’re using a line make sure you have a knife handy just in case you need to lose the bag.
